In April 2023, we embarked on a research journey in Ajuonah Obukpa community, Nsukka, on the topic; The Knowlegde of the Health Implications of Abortion Among Teenage girls, a study of Obukpa community. The said community is one of the host communities to the first Indigenous university of Nigeria, UNN, and as a result, became a habitat to most of the students, which are undoubtedly boys. This has pose a lot of challenges to the teenage girls who are either natives or resides in this area, as there are an increased record of teenage pregnancies and abortion. The aim of the reserach was to find out if these young girls knows the dangers that abortion pose to their physical and mental health and what propels them to choose abortion among all options. We employed in depth interview method of data collection, where we interviewed 70 girls from two secondary schools in the community: Avilla secondary school and communtiy secondary school, all in Ajuona Obukpa. The data collected were well analysed and the report of the findings states that the girls of this community knows just a handful about the health implications of abortion, that, which they learnt from peers and movies. This led us to draft a proposal, where we intend to organise a mentorship training for all the young girls of this communtiy and educate them on sexual and reproductive health, abstinence and abortion. This will go along way in preventing further occurences, correcting mistakes and helping the victims make amends and take necessary actions to get better.
on the 6th of June, 2022, we organised another program titled KNOWLEDGE IS POWER, where we gathered teenage girls from more than 10 communities in Nsukka, with over 200 young women in attendance. we had 4 guest speakers: Dr. Ijeoma Ogbonne, Dr Ngozi Asadu, Barr.
